The 2026 rates

For 2026, the full personal rate of the State Pension (Contributory) is €299.30 a week for people under 80 — around €15,564 a year. From age 80 an extra €10 is added automatically, bringing it to €309.30 a week (about €16,084 a year).

Your ageWeeklyYearly (approx.)
Under 80€299.30≈ €15,564
80 or over€309.30≈ €16,084

Those are the maximum rates. If your PRSI record does not reach the full 40 years (2,080 contributions), you receive a proportion of the maximum instead — which is exactly what our calculator works out for you.

Allowances paid on top

Certain extras are added to your personal rate if they apply to you:

Living Alone Allowance — €24 a week
If you live entirely on your own.
Over-80 Allowance — €10 a week
Applied automatically from age 80 (this is the €10 already shown above).
Increase for a Qualified Adult
If you have a dependent spouse or partner. The amount tapers as their weekly income rises, up to a cut-off.

What decides your actual amount

Your weekly rate is built from your PRSI record under the Total Contributions Approach — paid contributions plus credited and HomeCaring periods, divided by the 2,080-contribution target. During the transition to 2034, a blend with the older Yearly Average method is also calculated, and you receive whichever gives the higher rate. If your record falls short, so does your pension — see who qualifies and how voluntary contributions can help fill gaps.
